Going away on a trip often means finding accommodations for your pet. Before you leave him at a kennel, though, make sure you take steps to prepare your dog.

Reserve early

Don’t book reservations at the last minute. Reputable dog kennels in Toronto often get booked fast. You wouldn’t want to lose a slot. Secure one by making reservations early on, the PetMD says.

Check out the facility

Find out more about the facilities. Will there be enough space for your pet to play? What kind of playground is there? If you have the time, it would be a good idea to pay a visit to the kennel and see for yourself where your dog will be staying.

Look for signs

Be on the lookout for signs of trouble. For instance, are there enough people on staff of the doggy daycare? Find out what the right ratio of the people to dogs is, before you hand over your pet to their care.

Keep up with the vaccines

Before you bring your dog to a kennel, make sure he’s got all his shots up-to-date. Remember that some dog kennels in Toronto may require that you get your dog vaccinated before you bring them over. Be sure to follow those rules to avoid any hassles in the future.

Pack dog food

An abrupt change in diet can lead to eating problems. The best way to prevent that is to prepare daily portions of your dog’s food. That’s one way to ensure your pet doesn’t suffer from any inflammation or stomach problems.

Give him a bath

Once you pick up your dog from the kennel, make sure to give him a thorough and fun bath. Look out for any signs of ticks or fleas too, though. That way, you’ll know if you need to get him to the vet for treatment or anything.
