There are many things to consider when looking for an apartment complex from which to rent. You need to think about safety. Are the grounds secure? Are the buildings secure? Is the parking lot well lit? Ask these questions, and any others you may have about safety, before you even think about looking at the place. Some complexes have 24/7 security, some have buzzers and intercoms to let visitors in, and some have little to no safety features at all. You need to make sure the safety features are enough to make you feel comfortable. Ask about parking. Is there off-street parking? Will you have a garage or carport available to you? Do you have to park on the street?
Think about the size of the apartment you need, and be as realistic as possible. If a one-bedroom apartment will do, make sure there is enough storage space or closet space for your stuff. A studio apartment will not suffice if you have a lot of personal belongings. Ask to see the floor plans or view an empty unit to get an idea of how much space is in the apartment. Some complexes have floor plans available, either at their office or online. 2 bedroom apartment floor plans will usually have a bigger bedroom and a smaller one. Some will have two large bedrooms. You will want to know the sizes available so you can suit your needs. If you are sharing the apartment with a roommate, two bedrooms of equal size may be the best option. If you are a small family, then a master bedroom and a smaller bedroom for a child will work for you.
Large complexes, such as Ardenwood Forest Rental Condominiums, will have a few floor plans from which you can choose. Make sure you ask about the rent for each floor plan. Two bedroom apartment floor plans with one and 1/2 bathrooms will be less than those with two full bathrooms, for example. Do not assume that every one or two-bedroom apartment goes for the same rental price. Also, find out what amenities are included in the rent. This varies greatly from place to place.
