Based on the amount of use of the CNC plasma cutting machine. The more that the machine is used, the more frequently the consumables have to be replaced.

The benefit of replacing the consumables on a regular basis with the use of the equipment is to protect the torch from wear and tear. With the low price of consumables compared to the cost of a replacement torch this is a simple mistake to correct.

Too Much Antispatter

In many cases, antispatter compounds are used too heavily on a given workpiece. This creates a risk of the material making its way to the torch and resulting in failure.

It is also possible that oil, grease or lubricants may also be on the material. These substances can trap the dust produced from cutting and possibility result in electricity conducted across the surface. The presence of the metal dust may, possibly, result in problems with torch performance.

Not Cleaning the Torch

It is a good practice to perform a visual inspection of the CNC plasma cutting machine prior to and after each use. This allows any possible contamination of the torch to be identified and removed before it adds to the damage.

This is a quick process with hydrogen peroxide or electrical contact cleaner that will help to preserve the torch without the cost of continual replacement requirements.
