In most industrial applications, choosing a component to perform is a combination of factors including performance, features, and functioning. When it comes to industrial valve choices, these three factors, as well as life cycle, are typically considered at the top of any list.

There are multiple types of valves used in various industrial applications. Different valves are designed for steam, liquids, slurries or semi-solids and gas. Various materials can be used in the manufacturing of the valves to assist in corrosion resistance, resistance to extreme heat or cold as well as to ensure the valves will stand up and function in any work environment or outdoor location.

Pressure

Combining standard or low-pressure valves with a high-pressure system is more likely to result in leaks and valve failure, often in a very short period of use.

Viscosity

The higher the viscosity or the liquid behavior of the material in the system, the more important the quality of the industrial valve will be. Higher viscosity liquids, even when not under additional pressure, are more likely to result in leaks if the incorrect valve is selected. The type of gasket or connection used on the valve will be critical to prevent this issue.

It will be important to realize that heating and cooling of the system will cause contraction and expansion in the lines as well as in the valves. Even under controlled temperatures and with steady pressure through the system, valves will eventually need to be replaced. Routine valve checks are recommended to identify any signs of valve failure before there is a significant problem.
