There are many industrial fans on the market, & most of them can be found through Anglo Nordic. However, when determining whether to use axial or centrifugal fans, you may be at a stand-still. Most people don’t realise that there is a difference between the two & what those differences may mean for their purpose.

Axial

Axial fans use impellers to extract air from the room. The impeller is parallel to the shaft where the blades rotate & can be found in restrooms & smaller rooms where the fan can be installed in a window or single duct.

They can usually be found as four-inch or six-inch sizes, though commercial fans can be a lot larger. They may be standard or safety extra low voltage, & may offer various controller speeds & options, such as timers, pull-cords, humidity sensors & more.

Centrifugal Fans

A centrifugal fan also extracts air from the room but is able to create much higher pressures by using centrifugal force.. It uses an impeller, which rotates & causes the air to enter the fan, moving it perpendicularly from the shaft.

As such, the fan can produce more pressure for the air’s volume, & can push any extracted air through longer ducts.

Centrifugal fans come in many different versions & can be mounted to a wall & may look similar to axial fans. They are typically used where longer ducting is required to reach an outside wall.

Which Do You Need?

If you have a small room with an outside wall with no need for ducting, an axial fan may be sufficient, but if the room has no outside walls or must have extended ductwork, a centrifugal fan would be better suited.
