It is interesting how a number of treatments that began in ancient medicinal practises have been adapted into modern healthcare. This has been the case with Centella Asiatica.
Centella Asiatica has traditionally been used to deal with a number of skin conditions. In recent times, a number of skincare products have included an extract as part of their ingredients in order to improve the hydration of the skin and increasing the amount of water that the skin retains.
There have also been claims that the extract can be used to work with chronic skin conditions such as eczema. For people who have this condition it can be difficult as they deal with visible skin rashes and this can be very painful for them.
Some people have countered this, citing a lack of studies. However, a recent 2017 study looked at this. 20 women had a cream applied to their arms, one being a control cream and the other containing Centella Asiatica. When comparing the results, the control cream retained less moisture and the skin was drier, seemingly confirming the claims regarding the hydrating quality of the extract.
In terms of the quality of the extract, as with anything it needs to be handled in the right way.
