You need to know the rules of the Arkansas lemon law if you are going to get the support that you need under these laws. For many people the laws are confusing, they get frustrated and give up. The dealership and manufacturer are hoping that you do get frustrated and give up. The goal with taking advantage of these laws is that you will be able to see your part through so that you can get the relief that you need and get out from under that lemon.

The Rules

Every state has lemon laws as does the federal government. Additionally, every state has different rules when it comes to these laws. For example, in Arkansas the rules are:

  • You have up to 2 years from the time of the original purchase or 24000 miles whichever comes first
  • There must be 4 or more attempts to repair unsuccessfully or it must be out of service for 30 calendar days in a year
  • The issues must be of safety in nature, mechanical or a defect that keeps you from using the car

One of the most common answers that a dealer will use when responding to claims under the lemon law is that the owner of the vehicle did not allow the dealer to make the repairs, so it is imperative that you keep good records about the circumstances. Be sure you get copies of work orders every time your car is in the shop.
