A cooling system is a way to have a pleasant personal environment. Most cooling systems are included with heating and ventilation systems. The two main parts of a central AC system are the evaporator and the condenser. Open this box and remove the power plug, use the shut-off handle to disable the power, or carefully pull out the fuse plug. It’s a good idea to disconnect the power at the main panel also.
Clean the evaporator using a stiff brush, mirror, and household bleach. Unscrew the panel from the plenum. Pull out the evaporator. There may be insulation taped around it. Remove this without damaging any adhesive so you can put it back later. Gently pull out the evaporator since it may be connected to pipes. Use a stiff brush to clean the underside and top of this part. Hold the mirror to view the backside so you can clean it also with the stiff brush. Pour the bleach in the condensation tray and wipe it away with a sponge. Replace the evaporator and insulation.
Next, clean the condenser. Start by mowing the grass around this unit. Pull up vines and weeds that block the flow of air entering the unit. Use an industrial condenser cleaner and fin combs to lightly wash the condenser and straighten out the fins.
After you have finished cleaning the evaporator and condensor, perform related tasks on a set schedule or intermittantly as needed.
