If you are like many homeowners, you don’t know much about cabinetry in Ontario, other than you want new ones. When you are ready to make choices, it can be hard because there are so many options available to you. Therefore, it can help to know the differences between three primary cabinet choices.
Stock
Stock cabinets are pre-made and usually made in batches, so they all look the same. There is no customization at all, so what you see in the catalog or the showroom is what you get. These cabinets are made by making a lot of the same doors and drawers. They are stored until needed, and then assembled onto the cabinets and then shipped to the stores or your home. They may also choose to make the same size cabinets one day, making as many as they can, and then switching to wall cabinets or something else.
Even though they are all made at the same time, you can still get doors that don’t match the rest of the kitchen or itself. They may be darker than you imagined because they’ve been sitting there for a while.
Semi-Custom
With semi-custom options, the size can be the same as stock cabinets, but you can order different options from the catalog or in-store. You’ll have some customization options because you can choose a different color or a different door than would usually come with stock choices. You can sometimes get special sizes, with regards to depth or width, but not always.
This section can be a little tricky because almost anything that isn’t stock can be considered semi-custom. Most places agree that resizing the door fronts and cabinets means it is semi-custom while some believe that the depth also counts.
Custom
Customized cabinetry in Ontario means anything you can imagine, within reason. That can include stains and color variances, paint, slanted designs, different hardware (handles) and multiple colors. In most cases, you can also choose the type of wood you want, including cherry and mahogany. However, customization will cost more, so if you’re on a tight budget, you may need to stick with stock or semi-custom. Otherwise, you can create a unique and perfect cabinet that fits your style and personal needs, making it the best option for many homeowners who can afford it.
Custom cabinetry in Ontario offers the best design options because the sky is the limit. If you can dream it, someone can make it.
