“Wall coverings” is just a fancy term for wallpaper. If you are bored of the same blandly colored walls in your room, it might be time for some change. Now, you have two choices; opt for wallpaper or get the walls repainted. In virtually every case, the former is a much better option.

Wall painting is quite expensive and you will also need to go through a lot of hassle in order to get the job done. On the other hand, getting wallpaper installed is significantly cheaper and can also be done with less hassle. However, before you look to buy wallpaper, there are several things you must read up on.

Most people believe that there’s just one type of wallpaper. All you have to do is to go to the shop and select the design. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. There are many different types of wallpapers available, and they retail at different prices. Here are some of the most common types of wall coverings:

Vinyl Wallpaper

Vinyl wallpaper is relatively new in the industry, but has quickly become very popular. That’s primarily due to the fact that it is cheaper, and quite easy to manage. For instance, to clean your vinyl wallpaper, all you need is a piece of wet cloth. Simply rub the cloth over the stain, and the wallpaper will be as good as new. If you have imperfections in your wall, the vinyl wallpaper does a pretty good job of hiding those too. Vinyl is comparatively inexpensive and is available in many different designs.

Woodchip

Another very popular type of wallpaper is woodchip. This is even cheaper than vinyl, and is made out of small chips of wood. The wood chips are placed on the finished side of the base of the paper. However, this type of paper is available in several grades. You can select fine wood chips or opt for more coarse designs. This paper is widely used for covering walls that have a lot of dents and scratches. It can hide defects quite easily. Once the paper has dried on the wall, paint is applied over the top to finish the application process.

Pulps

Pulp wallpaper is arguably the cheapest type of wallpaper available. Simply put, this is a pattern that is printed on basic level wallpaper. They are relatively easy to hang (you can buy paste from the market) and quite easy to strip off as well. However, they require a lot of care. These types of wall coverings can get damaged quite easily. They also catch stains very quickly, and it is difficult to remove these stains as the paper begins to sag when it comes in contact with water.
