Doors are difficult to damage, but when they do surrender to some terrible treatment, you will have to make the decision about whether you should repair the damaged door or is this the time to invest in new custom exterior doors to change the look of your property and improve the safety and security of your family.

Has Your Door Become Damp?

A simple scratch on your exterior door may be enough for water to find a way through the varnish or painted finish, to the wood inside. Although the wood will have been treated against bugs and pests, it may not be able to cope with a continuous supply of water dripping into a specific area. The damp will induce a weakening of the wood and eventually unless you treat the situation as soon as possible, the wood may simply flake away.

The door may begin to warp, and this will reduce your security as it may become more difficult to open, close and lock, securely. As the damp takes a hold on your door, it may come out of place and not fit within the hinge jamb or the frame.

Should you choose to repair the door, it must be removed before it can be repaired and you may need to call for the services of an expert carpenter to realign both the door and the frame into which it will fit.

Upgrading Is Easier

The cost of repairing your doors may not be worthwhile when you compare this to the cost of installing new doors. Once a door fails to fit properly, they may never fit well again.

Custom exterior doors provide you with the opportunity to remove your old models and save the cost of repairing them by replacing them with new, upgraded doors.

Unless you are an expert and can work as well as a professional carpenter, you may be better to employ a trade craftsman who can complete all the work for you.

By choosing custom exterior doors, you will increase the look of your property, upgrade your security and install doors that will last for many years before requiring any maintenance.
