Decades ago, the main emphasis was placed on adolescents when it came to orthodontics. Since there are new products and treatments available, the patient age has been steadily increasing. And for those people who have been putting off their visits to Evanston Dentists, it is time to have work performed on your teeth. One of these new products that hit the market is Invisalign.

Invisalign in Evanston can be described with words like “fantastic” and “revolutionary”, but mainly the treatment speaks for itself. Invisalign is one of the few products that have stood the test of time. In fact, it has only became more popular with time. If you have already talked to your dentist, and Invisalign suits your needs, then scheduling the consult or treatment is next. Below are some questions that are frequently asked.

What about children and adolescents?
Invisalign is not suitable for children, because it is only for patients whose teeth are fully grown. However, there are a series of Invisalign which were adapted to adolescents, called Invisalign Teen. This is a slightly modified version of Invisalign, a system that allows for a little more active lifestyle. For example, it includes replacement aligners in case any are lost or broken.

How quickly does the system work?
Some people who have not completed dental work are treated for 12 months. Others who have more serious dental problems may have to wear a mouth guard for up to three years (similar to conventional braces, caps only look better). The mouthguards are removable, meaning they can be removed and suspend treatment. Evanston Dentists recommend wearing a mouthguard about 22 hours a day. For people who need a very minor correction, there is a new type – Invisalign Express. It uses the same type of system, but the term is reduced to six months.

Does it hurt?
Invisalign may cause slight soreness in the gums when you change aligners on schedule. But to be quite honest, it is nothing compared to the discomfort of conventional braces. The aligners are removable, so it makes life a lot easier. To brush your teeth or eat, or take a picture, just remove them. Moreover, since the Invisalign system works more effectively and faster than conventional braces, the load on your teeth is much smaller. It also makes the treatment more comfortable.
