Many industrial applications require using a gas. Research laboratories are also common consumers of gas. Nitrogen gas, in particular, is a common element for performing certain tasks to achieve specific goals. While it is possible to purchase this material in bulk or in portable cylinders, many industries and labs prefer to produce it on site as needed. For this, they need to purchase and install a nitrogen generator.

Choosing the Right One

Two basic models or types of nitrogen generators currently exist on the market. These are:

1. Membrane Nitrogen Generators
2. Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) process

Each system is more suitable for specific applications than the other is. Choosing the right system for your company depends upon understanding what variables to consider. Look closely at the following factors before making a decision.

Flow Rate: How precise do you want the flow rate? Both Membranes and PSA nitrogen generators supply exacting rates

Pressure: Both types of nitrogen generators command precise pressure

Purity: This is by far the most critical component of all the factors in your decision-making process. When it comes to purity levels, Membrane nitrogen generators are for those applications where the demand is for less than and equal to 99%. Over this percentage and you need a PSA nitrogen generator

It is also important to look at such things as maintenance issues. However, purity is the number one factor in choosing nitrogen generator systems. For example, for fire prevention with a demand for 95-98% purity, membranes provide the right level of purity; however, for food production, PSA systems meet the low oxygen high nitrogen percentage.

Nitrogen Generator

Two types of nitrogen generators exist: Membranes and PSAs. Before choosing on in preference to the other, be sure to know the qualities of each. By careful examination of each type, you can make an informed decision on what nitrogen generator is the more suitable for your application.
