Are you in the construction business? If so, you may need a variety of materials from your fasteners supply, including masonry anchors. However, there may be several options for anchors, and one is usually the best choice. Here are three of the most common options when you look for masonry anchors.
Drop-in
If you are working with poured concrete, drop-in anchors are usually the most effective. Drop-in anchors have two sections. They come with is a threaded sleeve and a bolt which fits into the sleeve. You may need to use a lip type anchor from your fasteners supply source which prevents you from setting the anchor too far into the concrete.
When you install drop-in anchors, make sure to drill the hole the same size as the sleeve. The anchor “drops into” the bored hole and you use a setting tool to seat the anchor sleeve. This creates a wedge at the end of the sleeve, and it cannot be taken out once seated.
Lag Shield
Lag shield anchors from your fasteners supply source, drop-into a bored hole, (like drop-in types). However, there is no need to use a setting tool. Once you thread the lag screw into the sleeve, it deforms the sleeve, creating a wedge into the poured concrete. You can save time with lag shield anchors.
Screws
One of the most common ways for fastening items to concrete involves special concrete screws. You can tell these screws from other fasteners because of their blue color. If you need to connect metal or wood to concrete, screws are very cost-effective.
Installing concrete screws is easy. You only need to bore a hole into the concrete. The hole must be the recommended size for the screw diameter. This method is cheaper because you are not using two-part anchors, and it is the fastest method too.
