There are many different options in cable tie mounts. They are usually selected based on the size of the cable or cable bundle they need to contain as well as the type of material the cable tie holder will secure.
For many types of interior surfaces, and particularly for wood, paneling or plastics, the cable tie mounts can be attached using adhesive for lightweight requirements or with a screw for heavier, more durable options. This is also a good option for exterior cable mounts on similar surfaces.
When the cable tie holder has to be attached to metal, which can be the case for equipment, machines, ships, marine applications or in any type of metal building or system, drilling holes and bolting the fastener through the holder is often not practical or even possible. In these types of applications, stud welding can be used to create a secure, welded connection between the cable tie mount and the metal surface in just seconds.
What to Look For
Ideally, when the cable tie holder is to be used with a stud weld system, look for a quality provider of both the mounts as well as the handheld tool. The mounts themselves should be designed with easy to use insertion ramps, allowing the mounts to be added to the system as needed and without complicated processes.
Additionally, consider the shape of the wings, the more pronounced the wings, the less risk there is of the cable rolling out during installation, which means attaching the ties to the mount will be an easy process.
The edges of the mount should also be coined. This prevents a sharp end of the mount from wearing at the sheath on the cable, potentially causing damage to the cable in systems where vibration or movement is a concern.
