There’s nothing quite like the fun of suiting up and heading out to do weekend battle against friends or foes with a passion for airsoft games. Similar to paintball, this sport pits teams of people against each other in military simulation scrimmages. Often taking place in the woods or on specially designed fields, these games are action-packed, adrenaline-pumping sessions that call for serious hardware.

But, what happens when players find themselves in tight quarters where typical assault rifles get in the way? This is where an airsoft pistol can really come in handy. Many players, in fact, use airsoft M1911 models, pistols, and even M9 replicas as side arms for that very reason.

Where Handguns Come in Handy

Some airsoft gaming courses are designed to offer an urban feel where players very well may find themselves in tight quarters with the “enemy.” When that’s the case, maneuvering rifles to aim for a “kill” can prove difficult. Well-designed handguns, however, deliver an advantage. With serious accuracy, lightweight designs, and proper magazine capacity, these guns just enhance the fun.

Starting Out in Airsoft

Handguns, in fact, are often the starter weapon of choice for new players because they’re relatively affordable. While serious players tend to use rifle and handgun combinations to cover all eventualities, having both isn’t necessary to get started. Some other gear, however, is crucial to have. The top items to buy to get started include:

  • Eye protection – Airsoft pistols and other airsoft rifles don’t fire real bullets, but they do fire soft projectiles. At high rates of speed, these projectiles can hurt. Although not considered especially dangerous, BBs, and eyes just don’t mix. That makes protective eye wear a necessity.

  • Other protective gear – Even though the damage done by pellets is very minor, many players prefer to wear other protective gear, as well. These items may include helmets, tactical pants, jackets and so on.

  • Pellets – Having a large supply of these is critical even for handgun users. With some handgun magazines holding up to 50 rounds, resupplying calls for a pretty steady stock.
