Summers in Colorado can be hot, but they may not last long. Before you know it, you are going to have to do something about your in-ground pool, to protect it from the cold weather ahead. Here are some helpful tips from your Colorado Springs pool builders, to help simplify your winterizing efforts.

Do Not Drain Completely

You may be tempted to drain all the water from the pool. However, it is a good idea to leave a little water in your pool. If you totally drain the pool, it could place a lot of pressure on the liner, and you may need to replace it next spring.

If you shut off the suction lines, check to see if the diverter valve is full of debris and clean it. Otherwise, you may have a problem draining the pool. Make sure you have a place for the wastewater to drain.

Above ground pools should not be drained. They need the weight to keep the pool stable. Freezing should not hurt these pools.

Blow Out Lines

As part of the winterizing process, Colorado Springs pool builders blow compressed air through the water lines. This should empty them, so there are no problems with freezing and breaking pipes. However, it is a good idea to put an antifreeze product in the pipes, because the Colorado winters can get extremely cold.

Check Your Pool Cover

You need to cover your pool for winter. However, if the cover has cracks or leaks, it may not do much good. Consider replacing the cover if it has problems.
