Planning a trip to explore the wide range of vineyards in Texas? At last count, there were over 400 wineries operating in the Lone Star State, and that can complicate your plans. How exactly are you supposed to choose between that many potential destinations?  It would take months to visit them all, so you need to narrow down your focus. Let’s take a closer look at what you should know.

Home in on Your Area

Given the massive size of Texas and the sheer number of vineyards here, it is important that you first decide what growing region (AVA) you’re most interested in visiting. For instance, you might choose to visit the Texas hill country, where you’ll find that you have a selection of 50+ wineries. That’s more than enough to ensure that you can find plenty of wines that you’ll love but not as ambitious as trying to cram in hundreds of wineries.

Use the Internet

Once you’ve decided on the region that you want to explore, use the Internet to determine what vineyards in Texas pique your interest. A quick Google search will give you plenty of local results, as well as connect you with a Google map that shows you where each vineyard is located above each other, as well as where you’ll be staying.

From here, you can then start to research individual vineyards. Check for things that will make an impact on your visit. One of the first things to consider is the selection of vintages available. This is particularly important if you have a preference – you love reds but are not so keen on whites, or you have a passion for blends. Explore each vineyard’s website to determine what they have to offer in the way of wines, and then take it to the next step.

In addition to the wines on offer, you should also consider other aspects of each vineyard in Texas you’re thinking about visiting. Do they offer tours? Do they have live music events on the weekends? Is there food available, either from an in-house kitchen or from food trucks? Is the winery pet and child-friendly?

Deciding on which vineyards in Texas to visit can be daunting, but it’s a lot of fun, too. At Bell Springs Winery, we look forward to welcoming you!
