Styling hair requires a lot of knowledge and skill. Stylists have to know the difference between permanent and temporary color. In addition, they should know how perms and relaxers react differently on hair. One way to attain the knowledge is to attend school. Most hair and beauty schools start with the basics to make students technically proficient. As students progress, they are taught advanced skills. Interested students are fortunate because most hair schools enroll students year-round. There is no waiting for a new semester to begin.

The Hair Academy in Lee’s Summit turns out successful stylists who have fabulous careers. Visit their website and Click for more information. Students are required to complete 1500 hours of instruction per session. Important skills that are taught include:

1. chemical processing
2. manicure skills
3. facials
4. cutting hair

Entrance into the school is not automatic. All prospective candidates are interviewed. Administrators want to meet each student and learn more about them. They will ask questions like why one wants to be in the business. In addition, they get a tour and learn about the school’s policies. The program has three courses, New Talent, Designer I and Designer II. New Talent gives students a perspective on the cosmetology field. Skills are taught in such a way that one builds upon another. This portion lasts for 12 weeks, and students study for 28 hours a week.

Next, participants continue to learn in a salon setting in Designer I. They are taught introductory real-life skills on how to operate a business. Additionally, classes focus on how to treat guests, retain clients and selling products. Designer I requires students attend 36 hours per week. Designer II, also 36 hours per week, focuses on test prep and how to secure a job. Test prep is important because students must pass a state exam to be licensed. Finally, students learn how to prepare a resume and job interview skills. Financial aid is available for qualified individuals. In order to qualify, students must be a high school graduate or have a GED. Interested persons should visit the school counselor or call the Department of Education. Successful students are ready to get the job of their dreams.
