Egyptian ancient art can encompass various art forms. From paintings and sculptures, to bronze figurines, architecture and more, the Egyptian people had a flair and style for creating many types of art work that people are still enthralled by even today. Paintings in particular are incredibly popular from this time period. From approximately 1000 BCE-100 AD, paintings and sculptures became incredibly popular. The paintings were typically symbolic, and they were highly stylized as well. Most of the artwork is owned by museums, galleries and universities, but there are many private collectors as well.
Most of the Egyptian art that has been found has come from monuments and tombs, which gives us an indication that the afterlife was extremely important in Egyptian culture. Most of the art is in relatively good shape due to being encased, but art from the time period doesn’t always survive if it is found in other locations that are not secured. Due to the nature of where the artwork is typically found, it is clear that genuine artwork from ancient Egypt is quite rare. It is especially rare to find new pieces that aren’t already known. As a result, the price of the artwork can be expensive to say the least.
Pottery was also a popular art form in ancient Egypt. In today’s culture many people would think the Egyptians were strange, but the symbolism they used had a purpose. Not only did it establish order, it was very symbolic as well. Today we would place lovely pieces of pottery in our homes for decoration, but during ancient Egyptian times pottery was placed in tombs of those that passed on. The pottery was used to represent a person’s body parts such as the liver, lungs, intestines, or other body parts that were removed before the deceased were embalmed. Interestingly enough, small pieces of enamel pottery were put into the tombs as well. The walls were then engraved with various things that related to the person who was dead inside of the tomb.
Egyptian art is definitely one of the most intriguing types of art in the world. It lets us tap into the beliefs and customs of so long ago, so that we can understand how art has evolved over the centuries. If you are a lover of quality art, then Egyptian ancient art is both captivating and unique.
