Due in part to society’s renewed emphasis on conservation, residential solar energy installations have hit an all-time high. More solar panels are in service at private residences than ever before. In turn, a record number of consumers are saving money on their energy bills and slashing their carbon footprint.

While many people still remain cautious when it comes to making the plunge, some specialists claim that market conditions make switching now a generally sound idea. Since increased demand has forced production levels to increase as well, which in turn has ensured that prices remain relatively low. Financing programs have also become slightly more friendly to consumers, which is good news for those who balk at the idea of paying out of pocket for solar installation.

At the same time, engineers have developed methods that allow manufacturers to place a greater number of individual PV cells in any given surface area. This gives them the freedom to design panels that generate more current than older ones at the same size.

Even though this doesn’t necessarily give retail consumers the freedom to use as much power as they want, it has significantly increased the amount of electricity that the average residential solar energy system can provide. Tech-savvy customers who’ve made a conscious effort to slash the amount of electricity they use will notice the biggest change.

Then again, even simple changes could help people make the switch. Saving electricity in many cases is as easy as shutting off the HVAC system and opening a window.
