One of the challenges of drilling and operating rigs in the oil fields of West Texas is the distance from any major cities when there is a need for specific parts and components for rig or system repairs. The good news is that there are top stocking manufacturers’ representative services in the area, but having specific parts on hand on is also helpful for all rig operators and maintenance crews.
A very handy and essential part in an oilfield supply toolbox or kit is the pipe repair clamp. There are different styles and options of these clamps, and most professionals have the most commonly used sizes and design options on hand at all times.
Similar to those used in any type of industrial process application, these pipe repair clamp options are intended to mount to the exterior of the pipe over the area of the leak. They are then tightened in place, resulting in a complete sealing of the leak that can be a permanent fix, or that can be replaced with a new section of pipe during the next scheduled repair and maintenance downtime.
Collar Leak Repair Clamps
These types of clamps are stainless steel on the exterior, and they have a full internal series of multi O-rings of 100% new rubber. These are used to create a permanent solution for leaking collars and bells. They are sized to meet the specific pipe, and they can be used in systems where the media is oil, water, salt, hydrocarbons, or mild acids.
Full Circle Clamps and Jiffy Clamps
Full circle clamps are used to repair ruptures along the pipe, holes, and cracks. These also have multiple O-rings and mount to the exterior of the pipe for immediate leak elimination.
The Jiffy style of pipe repair clamp can be used in similar situations to full circle clamps, but it uses a neoprene sheet or a waffle style of rubber interior to prevent any additional leaks.
