Christmas is the merriest time of the year, but it can also be one of the most expensive. Between gifts, parties and food, you may not have much money left in your budget for decorations. However, you don’t have to spend a fortune for holiday cheer. Here are three tips to help you save money on Christmas decorations for your home.

Buy or Trade for Used Decorations

Used holiday decorations often look like new because they only come out once a year. Shop yard sales and thrift stores, or trade with friends to get new-to-you decorations. Thrift stores often have Christmas tree clearance sales after the holidays to make room for new inventory.

Shop Out of Season

You don’t have to buy your Christmas decorations in November. Consider getting your stockings, candles and Christmas tree on clearance in January or February instead. Shopping out of season is a great way to get holiday decorations at low prices. Discount and closeout stores often have decorations for Christmas and other holidays at bargain prices all year long.

Repurpose What You Have

If your holiday decoration budget is a big zero, you don’t have to settle for a home devoid of Christmas cheer. You probably have things around your house that you can repurpose for holiday decorations. Add a festive red, green or buffalo plaid ribbon to a vase or candleholder, and craft strings of popcorn and berries to make your tree special. For more information, please visit The Christmas Palace.
