Phalloplasty is reconstructive surgery for the genitals. This procedure is a female to male reassignment surgery which has drastically evolved throughout the year. Because of the innovation of technology, patients can keep their erotic sensation. The success rate of the procedure has also increased, and the look of the new genitals have become more realistic through time.

This procedure may be accompanied by other surgical procedures that help achieve the desired look. Here are the different types of Phalloplasty.

Radial Artery Phalloplasty

Radial Artery Phalloplasty is also called a Forearm Free-Flap. This procedure uses a skin graft from the neophallus. The thinnest and reliable skin is the skin on the forearm. It is the easiest to harvest as well. Due to the location, a massive graft can be collected in the forearm which is particularly important especially when one wants a phallus of a larger size. This is also a suitable procedure for someone who wants to be able to stand when urinating.

One factor as well why it is ideal to get a graft from the forearm is, the radial artery from it is transplanted to the genitals so that it can receive blood supply. This factor has increased the success rate of the surgery. It has also done wonders for the patient’s sensation as about half of the patients that went through the surgery has achieved such sensation.

Pubic Phalloplasty

Pubic Phalloplasty is a less common procedure compared to the Radial Artery. A benefit of this surgical procedure is it is more flexible when it comes to the size which may be suitable for penetration use. But for the disadvantages, one big reason is that for this procedure, compared to the Radial Artery, it is not ideal for someone who wants to urinate standing up. Another one is it may result in a phallus that is too thick and with lesser sensation. Graft from the lower abdomen is used for this procedure and is formed into a tube to form the phallus structure.
