What Vehicles are Covered?
* Light trucks under 8,000 pounds and vans under 8,000 pounds
* New cars
* RV’s
* Vehicles that are under a year old or have less than 12,000 miles. This goes by whichever comes first in Illinois
* Vehicles that are purchased in Illinois
What Vehicles are not Covered?
* Trailers
* Boats
* Motorcycles
* Used cars
* Vehicles that are modified or altered by you in any way
What Do You Need to Do?
The Illinois lemon law covers new and leased vehicles and it’s pretty much the same process. Below you will find a list of what you should do to file your claim.
* Make sure to start documenting any problems you have right away
* Keep all repair receipts, no matter how small
* Make sure your car is out of service for 30 days or more before you try to classify it as a lemon
* The car has to be sent in for repairs of the same problem at least four times to be classified as a lemon
* Usually only repairs through the company that made your car will be considered as an attempt
