There are many different types and designs in floor scales, which are sometimes also called platform scales. Finding the right model of floor scale for your specific needs will be an important consideration to offer the most versatility and flexibility for your needs.

Not all of these types of scales are made the same. There are some that are designed to be portable, with the platform featuring two wheels in a configuration similar to that of a dolly. These types of scales tend to have a smaller platform for ease of movement and to be able to be easily moved around either indoors or out.

The vast majority of these scales are designed to be permanently placed and then have the loads moved to the scales. They have a low profile for the platform, making it easy to place pallets or larger loads easily on and off of the platform.

Weight Capacity

One of the most critical factors to consider when choosing a specific floor scale is the maximum weight capacity. Each model will be rated for a maximum weight on the platform. While it is possible to exceed this weight without damaging the scale, if this happens frequently it can result in errors in weighing and problems in calibration.

Ideally, choose a floor scale with a rating that exceeds your typical load range. This gives you additional weight capacity without risking the damage to the scale. With this choice of slightly larger scale capacity, there is also flexibility for the use of the scale, which can add to the value.

The features on the scale and on the weight indicator will also be important to consider. Look for a clear display, easy control over basic functions such as tare, gross, net or standstill to make weighing easy without a lot of operator training and experience.
