For most construction crews, the ability to hop into a truck and have everything you need is essential. You don’t have to worry about where you’ll go to rent a vehicle, and you can jump in and go to the construction site quickly. Therefore, it makes sense that if you don’t have one, you consider finding a knuckle boom truck for sale and purchase it. While some people think it is better to purchase the crane itself and put it on an already owned truck, this can be problematic for many reasons. Instead, you can purchase the truck with the crane already attached and save yourself a variety of questions and concerns.

What’s Carried

What do you regularly haul in the truck or lift with a crane? Most people get confused about payload capacity. Just because the crane can handle HVAC units doesn’t mean the truck can, as well. The payload impacts the truck that supports the crane just as much as the crane. Therefore, it’s essential that you know the size or weight of your average payload to help you determine what size, bed, type, and body length you need.

Truck Frame

When you purchase them separately, you have to worry about the truck frame’s strength. Regardless of type, trucks have an RBM (Resisting Bending Moment), which is the point during which the truck frame could bend or break with too much force. You can find out the truck RBM from the manufacturer. If you purchase a used knuckle-boom truck, this information should be provided to you. However, if the crane is already attached to the truck, there is little chance that the truck frame can’t handle the weight of the crane. That way, you can safely drive the truck with the crane attached and have no issues along the road.
